About Us

"If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly
our whole life would change."
-- Buddha

We primarily sell flasks, seedlings and stem-propagations mail-order to other growers, both professional and hobbyists. We generally do not broker plants, but produce them through hybridization. We operate our own lab here at the nursery.
We do not maintain regular hours; we are open by appointment only.
Please call ahead if you would like to arrange a visit.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide innovative hybrids of the highest quality to professional growers and hobbyists; our plant material will always be correctly labeled, healthy, vigorous and disease-free. Excellent plant material means happy customers.

In addition to flower quality, we also make selections based on vigor, freedom of bloom and habit of growth and inflorescence. This makes our hybrids of potential interest to both commercial pot-plant growers and to hobbyists interested in stud and exhibition plants.

Most of our hybridizing efforts are concentrated on species improvement of Phalaenopsis, (including Doritis), primary hybrids of Phalaenopsis and Multiflora and Miniature Phalaenopsis. We do a good deal of line-breeding on the late Herb Hager's lines, and are using as many of Herb's own hybrids as we are able to find.

Our People
bobRobert Bedard does most of the hybrids and handles most of the operations, from the lab to the greenhouse. He has been growing orchids for over twenty years, and previously handled operations at Whitaker Orchids between 1986 and 1994. He has given talks to Orchid Societies on Orchid Seedling Culture and Trends in Multiflora and Miniature Phalaenopsis Hybridizing.

KarenKaren Keary owns additional breeding stock and plays a supporting role. She shares Robert's passion for Orchids, and bought him his first one ...

A Little About Us
We are what you might call "Serious Hobbysists"; the Government calls us a business because we sell plants, but we do have other obligations. Because of this, we are often over-extended, and I do not always get back to people the way I would like ... please be patient, we are not trying to "snub" anybody ... if you do not receive a reply to a request for information, please accept my apologies, and please try again.

Our Friends
"No man is an Island, entire of it self; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main."
- from John Donne's Devotions (1624)

Donne’s quote is so apropos to orchid hybridizing, I did not make most of my foundation stock; I did not collect any of the species I have; others have helped me refine and extend my ideas; true, I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about my plants and doing research, but I would be nowhere without the efforts and generosity of others.
